		<description>I agree with most of what you&#039;re preaching. I wouldn&#039;t toss Libertarians into the far right though. Maybe fiscally, but certainly not socially. Really, the whole left-right paradigm is a bit old as far as I&#039;m concerned, but these are the constraints of the system we live in at the moment.</description>

		<description>The question is whether (and if so, how) thoughtful discussion can defeat the soundbite.  Not a new question, certainly.  

Polls show that the vast majority support raising taxes on the wealthy (returning to rates in existence when America was better off than it is now) but those views are ignored by elected officials who know they will pay a worse price for pissing off rich donors than screwing over those in poverty and making all of us worse off in the process.

In the absence of unions, which were the only countervailing force against the interests of consolidated capital for almost 100 years, I frankly don&#039;t know how we can leave this world a better place for our children.</description>
